NYC Boroughs

Working the five boroughs means starting with NYC Parks: any street tree, whether it looks healthy or not, needs a permit before it comes down or gets pruned back hard, and we file that paperwork as part of the job. Brownstone and rowhouse lots leave little room to work, so most Brooklyn and Queens jobs are crane-and-rigging takedowns done in sections rather than a straight drop, with sidewalk protection set up first. Manhattan and the Bronx add tight scheduling around building management and loading docks, and Staten Island still has enough open-yard properties that a standard takedown is more common than a rigged one. Long Island & Westchester Counties

Nassau is a patchwork of incorporated villages and unincorporated hamlets, and permit requirements shift from one to the next, especially on the North Shore where villages like Great Neck, Kings Point and Old Westbury run their own review on top of county rules. Street trees here are often 60 to 80 years old, and storm cleanup after a nor’easter or a summer microburst is a big share of our Nassau calls, particularly on the older canopy near the water. Lot lines tend to run tighter on the North Shore than the South Shore, which changes how we stage equipment on a job. Suffolk lots run noticeably bigger than the boroughs or Nassau, and land clearing for new construction or lot prep is a routine part of the work out here in a way it rarely is closer to the city. Eastern Suffolk sits at the edge of the Long Island Pine Barrens, so pine stands mixed with oak are common and bring their own removal and rigging considerations compared with a typical hardwood canopy.
